Welcome to 9 Karapiro Road - the ideal base camp and recreation venue. Conveniently located just 5 minutes’ drive from Cambridge and Lake Karapiro, you’ll soon feel a world away in our secluded setting, where you’ll be nestled by nature.

Group Bookings Made Easy

We’ve purpose-built this unique venue to cater for groups, offering flexible accommodation options designed with the needs of teams, schools and clubs in mind.

There are large, open spaces to mingle in and plenty of quiet corners for relaxation. Our commercial kitchen is well equipped for self-catering use, but if you’d prefer someone else to take care of providing hearty, nutritious meals for your group, we can offer a meal plan.

The entire property can be hired on a “base camp” basis, offering 62 acres of stunning woodland, native bush, cycle trails, walking tracks, orienteering routes and wide open spaces for you and your group to plan activities around. It’s the perfect place to train, relax or create your own adventures and team building challenges.

Self-Contained units, Dormitories, Woodland Hut and Powered Sites

We offer a variety of accommodation options, from powered campervan sites to self-contained units with their own bathroom and kitchenette, dorm rooms and even an off-grid woodland hut which sits next to a pretty waterfall.

A Multi-Purpose Venue

We also offer 9 Karapiro Road for half-day to multi-day hire for team-building, corporate events, off-road 4WD adventures, conferences and family events. The options are almost endless - ask how we can help to make your next event a huge success.

Meet your Host - Ian Kerr

Ian and his family purchased the land in 2006, recognising it as a very special spot close to Cambridge, and he has steadily re-planted the gullies with thousands of trees.

He first built a hydroponic lettuce and herb business here then, having previously spent 15 years managing a 150-bed holiday resort in Fiji, Ian developed the self-contained group accommodation and training facility.

Affectionately known as “The Lettuce Man”, Ian is a well known Cambridge character with a loyal following at the weekly Farmers’ Market. He’s also a fabulous chef and loves to prepare healthy and delicious “farm food” style meals for groups of hungry guests.

Ian is a good-natured host who goes above and beyond to ensure his guests enjoy their stay at 9 Karapiro Road. Give him a call to discuss your next trip.

We have been using 9 Karapiro Road, Cambridge for training and events for a number of years. It’s close proximity to the main highway make it easy to get to, however it's clever design layout makes you feel like you’re well out in the countryside.

Whether it’s accommodation for a small or large group, or a location to hold your work conference or wedding, 9 Karapiro Road ticks all the boxes. Honestly it has to be seen to be believed.

Accommodation on-site is an added bonus – you can choose to be self-sufficient or include catering in your booking, but be assured whatever you choose your hosts will do everything in their power to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

I used 9 Karapiro Road as a base from which to run a coach development programme for a group of kayak and canoe coaches and athletes from Taiwan. The close proximity of 9 Karapiro Road to Lake Karapiro and the hospitality of the owners was outstanding. Ian and Judy were fabulous hosts and were able to accommodate our requests for full board and vegetarian options.

Staying at 9 Karapiro Road was like being hosted on a farm stay, whilst being surrounded by native bush. The relaxed nature of Ian and Judy, along with the mostly communal accommodation, provided an ideal environment for working with a group. I would definitely recommend 9 Karapiro Road as a place to stay, whether it is for a professional development retreat, using Lake Karapiro for training/competition or even as a place to stay for large family groups. I hope to stay 9 Karapiro Road again in the near future.
